Membership Categories and Criteria
Since 1985, ATRA has represented the profession of Recreation Therapy in the province of Alberta. ATRA supports over 700 members in the delivery of competent, safe and ethical health care service to Albertans. If you are practicing, managing, instructing, enrolled as a therapeutic recreation student or would like to support the profession, ATRA welcomes your application for membership.
New applicants to the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association can select from one of three membership categories.
1. Professional Membership – Apply for this category if you are a new graduate, new to ATRA, CTRS designate, currently practicing, supervising, teaching or returning to practice after a Leave of Absence (LOA) of 3 consecutive years and who meet academic and clinical placement requirements.
Note: If you are an ATRA Student Member in good standing within the membership year you apply for Professional Membership, the fees will be waived in the form of a reimbursement after all membership criteria has been approved. You will need to pay the Professional Membership Fees to process your online Professional Membership application. Along with meeting full criteria and approval of Professional Membership, your credit card account will be reimbursed the fees you paid. 2. Student Membership – Apply for this category if you are taking one or more courses towards the completion of a diploma, post graduate certificate, bachelors / masters / doctorate degree whose title contains Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation & Leisure Studies. Note: ATRA professional members who continue to work in therapeutic recreation while taking courses are expected to maintain Professional Membership.
3. Supporting Membership – Apply for this category if you are interested in furthering the objectives of ATRA are not eligible for Professional or Student Membership. If you have previously been a Professional Member and now wish to become a Supporting Member, please send contact firstname.lastname@example.org prior to applying as a Supporting Member as changes need to be made to your account.
Membership applications may be deferred, refused or conditions imposed if the renewal applicant does not meet membership criteria.
